California Officers Save 3-Year-Old from Woman with Gun, Suspect Killed

The San Bernardino PD said that officers responded to a call from a woman who said there was a woman inside the residence with a gun to the head a 3-year-old boy. The caller told police the boy was her grandson.

An armed woman who was allegedly threatening to shoot a young child was shot and killed by police during an incident in San Bernardino, California, on Dec. 10, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The San Bernardino PD said that officers responded to a call from a woman who said there was a woman inside the residence with a gun to the head a 3-year-old boy. The caller told police the boy was her grandson.

“The reporting party was hysterical as she explained that the female suspect had already shot off the gun inside the residence and stated the child was not safe with the suspect inside,” police said.

When the first officer kicked the door open to the residence, he saw the suspect standing on a bed inside the living room with a gun pointed directly at the young child, who was seated on the bed right below her, police said.

The officer shot the suspect to protect the child, police said.

Medical aid was rendered to the suspect, but she died at the scene.

Police identified the suspect as Darvet Brown, 35. “She was not related to the child, and the motive for her behavior is not fully understood at this time,” police said.
