Virginia Officer Critically Wounded, Suspect Killed in Gunfight

The incident began when officers conducted a wellbeing check on a man in southeast Roanoke when they discovered the man stabbed to death in his home. Officers believe that the stabbing occurred a few days prior.

A Roanoke, Virginia, police officer was critically wounded Sunday in a gunfight with a murder suspect. The suspect was killed.

The officer who was shot on Sunday is out of surgery but remains in critical condition at LewisGale Hospital, WDBJ reports.

Roanoke City Police Chief Scott Booth says she is doing “much better than expected.” Her name has not been released.

Around 4 p.m. the person of interest in the investigation was found walking near Melrose Towers, when three officers approached the suspect. The suspect reportedly shot an officer, and the suspect was shot and killed by police. The suspect’s name has not been released.
